Baccarat Rules

The game of baccarat and baccarat rules is a mystery to many casino players, as for years it was played only in back rooms at high limits by VIPS. However, as complicated as the game may seem, baccarat rules are actually quite simple to learn. Read on for an overview of baccarat rules.

The game of baccarat is a 2-player card game between a player and a banker. However, large numbers of players may play, as the objective is to correctly bet on whether the player will win or the banker will win. According to baccarat rules all a player has to do is make the decision about whether to bet on the player, the banker or a tie game. The rest of the game rules are automated, so the outcome is left up to chance.

Although baccarat rules are automated it is still important to understand the basics of how cards are dealt when you play this exciting casino game. After bets are placed the cards are dealt—two each to the player and the banker. The objective is to choose the hand that you think will have the highest value. Hand values are determined by adding the cards together. According to baccarat rules, Aces are worth 1 point each, 10s and face cards are worth 0 and numbered cards are worth their face value. If the total is a 2-digit number the 10s digit is dropped (i.e. 11 is actually only worth 1 point).

Baccarat rules state that the banker or player will be dealt a third card in certain situations. The rules differ for the player and the banker.

Player rules are as follows:
- If the player’s 2-card hand is worth 8 or 9 then no additional cards are drawn.
- If the player’s hand is worth 5 or less the player draws a third card.
Baccarat rules state that the player completed his hand first and then the banker, as the banker’s rules are dependent upon those of the player:
- If a third card is not drawn by the player then the banker stands on a hand worth 6 or more and takes a third car on a hand worth 5 or less. If the player does take a third card then the following rules apply.
- If the banker’s hand is worth 2 or less they draw a card.
- If the banker’s hand is worth 3 they draw a third card if the player’s third card was anything except an 8.
- If the banker’s hand is worth 4 they draw a card if the player’s third card was anything except 0, 1, 8 or 9.
- If the banker’s hand is worth 5 they draw a card if the player’s third card was 4, 5, 6, or 7.
- If the banker’s hand is worth 6 they draw a third card when the player’s third card is 6 or 7.
- The banker always stands on 7.
